Vase for Big! Flowers
Vase for Big! Flowers
Every spring, my young orchard is a riot of lupin and then foxglove, and I’m always searching around for some giant vase that isn’t going to fall over. Here it is! If you buy it, please forgive me if it is lightly used! In contrast to the Big Deep Breath Bottle in white porcelain, this one has a wider opening at the top (4 1/4”) although they are basically the same size overall. I think that one would be better for ikebana because it has a steeper approach between the shoulder and the neck, allowing for the asymmetry of that art form.
I made the neck wider on this one because I often end up with a bouquet that I can’t hold with just one hand, so it needs to fit in there. Yes, I know that more reasonable people would regulate themselves, but I am not reasonable when it comes to flowers. I made the foot wide enough for stability and of course the gallon and a half of water that the vase can hold would also anchor it against a passing breeze.
“dirty” porcelain, red shino glaze on the inside, then woodfired in the glorious PHP anagama with a team of lovely people
